Man charged over 1991 rape attack

A man has been charged over the rape of a woman 15 years ago, following a review of the case by officers at Greater Manchester Police.

Andrew Christopher Watkins, 40, of Glovers Way in Shawbirch, Telford, is charged with rape.

He is due to appear before Manchester magistrates on Friday.

The 25-year-old woman was attacked in the Astley area of Leigh on 18 March 1991, a Greater Manchester Police spokeswoman said.

The charge follows a review by GMP's Cold Case Review Unit.
