A 13-year-old girl has been raped in what police have called a "traumatic" attack in Greater Manchester.

The girl had just left the Texaco garage on Bury Road, Bamford, Rochdale, on Sunday when she was attacked.

She turned down Half Acre Road and saw a man standing in an alleyway, before hearing someone shouting her to stop.

The man, who is Asian and in his early 20s, followed her and pushed her down Half Acre Lane where he raped her. She then managed to run away.

The man is described as having a shaven head and a beard, and was wearing a dark hooded top and tracksuit bottoms at the time of the attack.

Det Chf Insp Jeff McMahon said: "The victim has obviously been traumatised by this attack and the CID team are working hard to catch the person responsible.

"Whilst this is a nasty offence, I wish to reassure members of the public and the local community that this is a rare event."
