Child killed on his way to school

A 10-year-old boy died after he was knocked off his bike by a lorry as he rode to school in Greater Manchester.

Matthew Reger, from Adswood, Stockport, was travelling along Neston Grove when he was hit by the lorry, driven by a 37-year-old man from Stockport.

He was taken to Stepping Hill hospital where he died a short time later.

Police said Matthew was a pupil at Adswood Primary School and was a huge Manchester United fan. Inquiries are continuing into the collision.

Neston Grove was closed while investigations were carried out and officers are appealing for witnesses to contact them.

The collision happened at about 0835 BST, police said.
