Two quizzed over pensioner attack
Two people are being questioned on suspicion of attempted murder after an elderly lady was attacked in Cheshire.

Police said the attack on the 77-year-old, on Kingsway in Bollington, near Macclesfield, on Saturday evening, was vicious and unprovoked.

The woman was taken to Wythenshawe Hospital for emergency surgery and was in a critical condition on Sunday.

A 22-year-old man and a 16-year-old girl are being questioned on suspicion of attempted murder.

'No motive'

They were arrested within an hour of the attack taking place.

Detectives said there was no obvious motive.

Additional officers are now patrolling the area to reassure neighbours this was an isolated incident, and police are searching a number of addresses.

Anyone with information about what happened is being asked to call the incident room
