A suspected burglar threw roof slates at police officers
A man has been arrested on suspicion of criminal damage following a nine-hour siege that led to the closure of a road in Greater Manchester.

Officers were called to Shakespeare Drive, Cheadle, on Friday morning when a suspected burglar ran onto a roof and threw slates at police on the street.

Three houses were badly damaged and one woman resident was treated by paramedics after becoming distressed.

Police said a 26-year-old man from Heald Green was being questioned.

Residents had been urged to stay indoors for their own safety while trained police negotiators spoke to a man on the roof. No-one was injured.

A man had spent the day moving across a number of houses throwing roof slates to the floor, said a Greater Manchester Police spokesman.
