Hay bales were used to help Sam step out
A horse had to be rescued from a swimming pool after it wandered into a back garden in Cheshire.

Firefighters were called by the owners of the house in Hale Barns after Sam the horse left its usual grazing area behind the house and took a dip.

The water - 6ft deep at one end - was drained from the pool and hay bales used as steps to help him get out.

It is believed Sam followed a dog into the garden. He was checked by a vet but found to be unharmed by his ordeal.

It took 18 firefighters and members of the Humane Education Service an hour to free him from the pool.
