Man unconscious after gang attack

A 60-year-old man was knocked unconscious when he was hit over the head with a brick by a gang of up to 30 youths in Greater Manchester.

Police said he was walking along Neal Avenue in Heald Green when youths started shouting abuse and assaulted him in an unprovoked attack.

The man received hospital treatment and has since been discharged.

A 14-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of assault and bailed to 31 January pending further enquiries.

Officers believe there may have been up to 30 youths in the group and are appealing for witnesses.
