The actor Patrick Stewart visits Oldham on Monday for the official opening of the town's new university centre.
The centre is designed to boost participation in Higher Education and assist regional regeneration in Oldham.
The Shakespearean actor, best known for his role as Captain Picard in Star Trek and Professor X in the X-Men films, will open the Cromwell Street centre.
Mr Stewart, who originally comes from Yorkshire, is also Chancellor of the University of Huddersfield.
That university will be managing the new University Centre Oldham from August 2005.
A spokesman for the University of Huddersfield said: "We are delighted that Patrick is able to join us in Oldham for the official opening of the new university centre. He is an excellent ambassador for the university and very committed to the North of England where he grew up.
"His career demonstrates what can be achieved from the humblest of beginnings through talent, determination and sheer hard graft."
