'Too early' to judge drinking law
A Home Office minister has said the new licensing laws need time to "bed in".

Paul Goggins, MP for Wythenshawe, in Manchester, said young people in particular needed to be made aware of the dangers of alcohol.

But he said it was too early to judge what impact the new licensing laws, which allow longer and later opening hours, would have.

Police forces across the North West reported no increase in disturbances as a result of the new laws.

They said the real test of the legislation would be the Christmas period.
