More time to question gun suspect
Detectives investigating a series of shootings have been given an extra 36 hours to question four people.

Armed police arrested a 26-year-old man in Derbyshire on Saturday on suspicion of robbery, aggravated burglary and attempted murder.

The arrest follows a number of incidents in Wigan in which shots were fired at police officers and a man, aged 60, suffered chest wounds.

Two women and a man are also being held on suspicion of helping an offender.

Car theft

The first incident took place on 2 November when police officers were shot at while investigating a burglary.

On 8 November shots were fired in the Beech Hill area of the town.

A 43-year-old woman had her car stolen at gunpoint on Friday and 35 minutes later a man was taken to hospital after an incident in the Wigan Lane area. He is in a stable condition.

Later that evening two men were threatened with a gun by a man who stole their car.
