Ellen Turner has turned her family's history on its head

A fireworks expert working on a Gunpowder Plot 400th anniversary display is a direct descendant of the man who arrested Guy Fawkes.

Ellen Turner, from Manchester, is descended from Sir Thomas Knyvett, who apprehended Guy Fawkes under the House of Lords in November 1605.

In a role reversal of family history, though, she will be doing the blowing up on Saturday as a pyrotechnician.

The After Dark display in Sheffield's Don Valley Bowl starts at 2030 GMT.

Ms Turner said: "It's something I've always known about since I was a child.

"He was captain of the guard at the tower and responsible for Guy Fawkes' arrest."

After his success in apprehending Guy Fawkes, Sir Thomas was promoted to become a Privy Councillor, Member of the Council to Queen Anne, and Warden of the Mint.
