Woman killed as car hits a tree

A woman in her 50s was killed when her car ploughed into a tree, Greater Manchester Police have said.

The woman's white Renault Megane left the Blackrod Bypass on the A6 in Greater Manchester close to the Ridgeway pub late on Monday afternoon.

She was the only person in the car and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said police did not believe anybody else was involved in the crash, which closed the road for two hours.
