Call for over 70s driving tests
The family of a child killed after a car driven by an elderly man mounted the pavement, wants driving tests to be introduced for people aged over 70.

Three-year-old Amicie Nwokeochar from Bolton died in November 2003 in Farnworth when he was knocked over outside a chip shop.

The driver, then aged 88, told police his foot slipped from the brake pedal on to the accelerator.

Bolton's coroner recorded a verdict of accidental death on Wednesday.

Afterwards, Pc Ian Beaumont, who dealt with the accident, said: "With the age span of people increasing all the time there's going to be more elderly drivers on the roads nowadays.

"And perhaps in circumstances like this it brings to mind that some form of testing may be appropriate."
