No emergency phones on M60
M60 orbital motorway
Motorists face speed restrictions while the work is carried out
Roadside phones and warning signs and signals along a section of the M60 will be switched off from Monday as road-widening work begins.

The communications shutdown affects the area between junctions 5 and 8 and is expected to last more than two years.

A CCTV system will still cover the section and six temporary message signs will also be deployed.

Drivers who break down between Junctions 5 and 8 are asked to stay with their vehicles until help arrives.

The Highways Agency say a wider carriageway is needed because that section of the Manchester ring road is a notorious bottleneck.

The aim is to cut congestion for the 90,000 drivers who use the motorway every day.
