Toby Studabaker was extradited from Germany

A former United States marine has appeared in court via a videolink charged with abducting a 12-year-old British girl he met over the internet.

On Monday Toby Studabaker, from Michigan, pleaded not guilty at Manchester Crown Court to one charge of child abduction.

Mr Studabaker, 32, allegedly disappeared with the youngster from Greater Manchester, who cannot be named for legal reasons.

He was arrested in Germany in July and extradited to the UK the following month.

He was remanded in custody and a trial date has been set for 12 February.
