Kate Obertelli fell ill after only two mouthfuls of curry
A woman died after eating just two mouthfuls of curry because of a nut allergy, an inquest has heard.

Kate Obertelli, 21, of Horwich, Greater Manchester, had been at a friend's house in Coppul, near Chorley, Lancashire, when they ordered a takeaway, warning staff she had a severe allergy to peanuts.

But the chicken korma was made with almond paste which contained peanuts and the beauty salon worker suffered an acute reaction.

She had difficulty breathing and was taken to hospital where she died in July.

A verdict of death by misadventure was recorded by the Preston coroner Howard McCann.

He said the danger was that sufferers of the allergy were unaware that almond paste contains peanuts.

Mr McCann also paid tribute to Ms Obertelli's parents, who have said they do not want to start a "witch hunt" against the unnamed takeaway.

Her father Mike, 46, said his daughter was "a lovely, bubbly" girl and "the love of my life".

He added: "There has been a mistake but we cannot be angry about that."

Speaking after the hearing, Mr Obertelli said he was trying to find the manufacturer of the almond paste and urged takeaway owners to carefully check ingredients.

He said raising awareness may stop another tragedy.
