Man charged after mass brawl

An 18-year-old man has been charged with a public order offence and two others have been arrested following a mass brawl when a man was stabbed.

Police were called to Wilmslow Road, Rusholme, Manchester, on Friday afternoon following reports of a disturbance involving about 100 youths.

Shahzad Khan, from Ardern Road, Crumpsall, north Manchester, has been charged with a public order offence and will appear before magistrates in Manchester next week.

A 16-year-old youth from Burnage was arrested on suspicion of affray, but he was later transferred to Manchester Royal Infirmary after suffering a stab wound to his stomach.

His injury is not believed to be life threatening.

Crowd dispersed

An 18-year-old man from Cheetham Hill is being questioned on suspicion of assault.

A Greater Manchester Police spokeswoman said: "The group dispersed shortly after officers arrived at the scene.

"A high profile police presence remained in the area overnight and a mobile policing unit was set up on Wilmslow Road."
