A mother and her baby were the toast of a beans factory after she gave birth in the car park outside.

Cleaner Louise Carr's waters broke outside the Heinz plant in Wigan, Greater Manchester - two days before her maternity leave was due to start.

Can maker Les Wall and security guard Susan Jones helped deliver Emily into Mr Wall's coat pocket on 2 July.

Emily was born five-weeks premature and weighed in at 5lb 15oz.

Ms Carr, of Worsley Hall, Wigan, said: "I can't thank them enough. Susan and Les were brilliant.

"They were calm and talked to me and suddenly I was pushing and there was baby Emily."

Ms Jones, who had just arrived for work when Emily made her arrival, said: "We have not met up yet, but when we do I am going to get the baby a lovely outfit."

On Friday Heinz offered Ms Carr a year's supply of baby food.

Heinz plant manager Mark Jones said: "This is a first for this factory.

"We were really pleased and as a small gesture and a mark of celebration we are offering Louise a year's supply of free baby food."
