A 22-year-old man was killed in an apparently motiveless shooting as he left a takeaway shop in west London.

Officers found Daniel Omari Smith, an electrician from Paddington, near the southern end of Harrow Road just after 0015 BST on Saturday.

He was treated at the scene but died from his injuries within an hour.

Det Insp Mark Brookes said Mr Smith was shot as he left the takeaway and returned to his car. He managed to go back into the shop before collapsing.

No-one has been arrested over the shooting. A murder investigation has started.

Mr Brookes said: "We know that he had purchased some food from KFC and was about to return home.

"Having left KFC and returned to his vehicle we are aware that he was shot.

"He managed to return from his vehicle to the restaurant, where he collapsed.

"He was a young man, aged 22, of good character. It appears to be motiveless shooting."

A post-mortem examination is being held.
