Arrest after man stabbed to death outside Islington pub

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a stabbing outside a north London pub.

Samuel Fitzgerald, 20, was attacked outside the Thornhill Arms in Wynford Road, Islington, on Wednesday night.

He suffered stab wounds to the body and was taken to the Royal London Hospital where he died.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said a 20-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of murder remained in custody.

Police appealed to anyone who saw anything suspicious and said they were keeping an open mind about the motive for the stabbing.

The murder was not connected to the Spurs v Arsenal game that was taking place nearby, they said.
