Body of man recovered from Thames at Shadwell Basin

The body of a man has been recovered from the River Thames at Shadwell Basin in east London.

Police went to the waterside in Wapping on Thursday night after reports of a man falling into the river.

Officers believe the man, who was with a 17-year-old girl, was involved in an altercation with a group of people, shortly before falling into the river.

Metropolitan Police are treating the death as suspicious. The man was in his 20s and has not yet been identified.

A post-mortem examination will be held in due course.
