Suspected Eta member arrested in London

A suspected member of the Basque separatist group Eta has been arrested in London by the Metropolitan Police.

Garikoitz Ibarlucea Murua was held in Soho, central London, by officers acting on behalf of Spain's government.

The 27-year-old was held under a European Arrest Warrant alleging terror offences. He will appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Monday.

Eta, designated a terrorist group by the EU, wants a separate Basque homeland in northern Spain.

It has been blamed for more than 820 deaths during its 41-year campaign.
