Firefighters rescue man from house fire in Islington

Firefighters in breathing apparatus had to rescue a man after fire broke out in a north London house.

Flames took hold at about 1100 GMT on Saturday at the home in Witherington Road, Islington.

Some 20 firefighters and four fire engines rushed to the scene, where they rescued the man who was suffering from smoke inhalation.

He was treated by ambulance staff at the scene. Flames destroyed 20% of the second floor and 50% of the roof.
