Teenager murdered after fight at Beckton cinema

Showcase Cinema, Beckton
Police were alerted to a disturbance outside the cinema on Friday night

A teenage boy was stabbed to death after a fight erupted outside a cinema in east London.

The 17-year-old, who has not been identified, died at the scene, outside the Showcase Cinema in Beckton, on Friday night.

Police were alerted to the attack following reports of a disturbance there at about 2045 GMT.

Three teenagers, one aged 15 and two 16-year-olds, were arrested near the scene and remain in police custody.

Officers said the teenager's next-of-kin had been informed. They added formal identification would only take place after a post-mortem examination.

Det Insp Ian Goldsborough, of homicide and serious crime command, said: "We believe there will have been people in the area, either going to or from the Showcase Cinema or the nearby restaurant, that may have seen or heard the incident that has lead to the tragic death of a teenager.

"We are appealing to them, or anyone else that was in the area at the time of the incident to contact us and lets us know what they saw or heard."
