A man has died after being found stabbed near Crystal Palace's football ground in south-east London.

Mark Corcoran, 26, of Croydon, had staggered into a shop for help after being attacked in Whitehorse Lane, Norwood, at about 2020 GMT on Sunday.

A shop worker called an ambulance but he died on the way to hospital.

Metropolitan Police said the victim was stabbed after he attended a Valentine's Day wedding. A post-mortem examination will take place later.

A Met spokesman said the murder was not being linked with the FA Cup game between the club and Aston Villa on Sunday afternoon.

The game was played at Crystal Palace's Selhurst Park stadium.

Det Ch Insp Cliff Lyons said: "We know that Mr Corcoran attended a wedding on Valentine's Day and we are appealing for anyone who has knowledge of his attendance at this wedding or his movements throughout the day to come forward.

"We would also like to hear from anyone who was in the area of the Crystal Palace football ground, particularly after 19.30hrs, and who may have seen or heard anything."
