Barking bleach death boy's mother remanded in custody

A mother accused of murdering her autistic son who died after drinking bleach has been remanded in custody.

Ajit Singh-Mahal, 12, was found with fatal injuries at the family home in Barking, east London, on Tuesday night. His mother was arrested at the scene.

Satpal Kaur-Singh, 44, who has been charged with murder, appeared at Barking Magistrates Court on Friday.

She was remanded in custody until 15 February, when she will appear at the Old Bailey.

A post-mortem examination gave a preliminary cause of death as ingestion of a "caustic liquid".
