East London gang fight teenager dies from stab wounds

A teenager who was critically injured during a suspected gang fight in east London has died from stab wounds.

Isschan Nicholls, 18, from Poplar, was hurt during a brawl involving up to 15 youths in Bow on Wednesday night.

Mr Nicholls died at the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel, east London, in the early hours of Friday.

He is the first teenager to die violently in the capital this year. There were 13 teenagers murdered in London during 2009.

Mr Nicholls was injured in a fight near Eastside Youth Centre at about 2120 GMT on Wednesday.

Murder arrests

A post-mortem examination revealed he died from stab wounds to the abdomen and thigh, a Metropolitan Police spokesman said.

A 17-year-old who also suffered knife wounds has been discharged from hospital.

Ten people aged between 15 and 42 have been arrested in connection with the murder investigation.

Seven, including two women, remain in custody in police stations in east London, while three men were bailed pending further inquiries.
