A man has been arrested after a five-year-old girl and her 13-year-old brother died in a fire in a flat in north-west London.

Firefighters discovered the girl's body in the property in Cunningham Place in St John's Wood earlier.

Her 13-year-old brother jumped from a window of the third-floor flat but died later in hospital.

Two other children, aged 12 and 15, and the dead children's father, 44, are being treated in hospital.

Their injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

About 20 firefighters tackled the fire, which began at about 0245 GMT on Thursday.

The fire in the four-storey building was brought under control after about 90 minutes.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said one man had been arrested in connection with the fire.
