Divers scouring canal for man, 30

John Regan
A Facebook group searching for Mr Regan now has 2,500 members

Police divers are searching a canal in Camden, north London, a week after a 30-year-old sports analyst left a pub and disappeared without trace.

John Regan, originally from Derbyshire, vanished at 0115 GMT on 19 November. His mother, brother and sister are in London to help out the search.

Mr Regan seemed happy and his family say it is "utterly out of character".

TV presenter Claudia Winkleman and comedians David Mitchell and Dave Gorman have publicised the hunt.

They are among 2,500 people to have joined a Facebook group trying to spread word of the widely-popular Mr Regan's disappearance.

Police say they want to speak to two unicyclists who may have been the last people to see him.

Although Mr Regan had visited several pubs on the evening, his friends say he was able to handle his drink.

Mr Regan set off for his home in Chalcot Road, but never arrived.

His sister Jen Regan said: "We're all missing my brother and we urge anyone who was in Camden or Primrose Hill on the night to contact police, as any information could prove vital."

Concerned friend Kerrianne O'Rourke, 27, a charity worker from Camden, told BBC London: "He is the one person out of all of our friends who you would have thought would be safest walking home at night.

"He is a very good-natured man and very happy. He has lots of close friends and we can't see any reason for him to go missing."

She added: "It is just such a mystery and it's horrible to think about what may have happened."

Police are particularly keen to trace two unicyclists who may have been the last people to see Mr Regan before he turned on to Regent's Canal.

Their search of the canal has been hampered by heavy rain.

Detective Inspector John Marriott said: "We know from John's family that his disappearance is utterly out of character.

"We urge anyone with information to contact us as soon as possible."
