Primary pupils in anti-gun class

Met's Trident team held a workshop for 10 and 11-year-olds in October

Year six children may be given anti-gun crime workshops by the Metropolitan Police to deter them from getting involved in violent crime.

The Trident team, which deals with gun crime in the black community, held a workshop at a London school in October.

The Met said it is waiting for feedback before deciding to roll out the workshops to other schools.

The unit already holds classes for secondary pupils where they are shown images of crime scenes and injuries.

A Met statement said: "In October, officers from the community engagement team visited a group of year six pupils in a London primary school.

"The aim of the visit, arranged very much with their age in mind, was to gauge the children's understanding of issues such as conflict resolution.

"Officers are continuing to evaluate the feedback from this visit. At this very early stage, no decision has been taken to extend Trident's engagement work in to primary schools."

In a statement the Met said a decision to roll out the scheme will be taken only after "extensive consultation".
