Driver who fell asleep is jailed

A woman who killed two pedestrians when she fell asleep at the wheel of her minibus after the Notting Hill Carnival has been jailed for five years.

Colette Wilson, 32, of Brixton, London, admitted causing death by dangerous driving at Inner London Crown Court.

Her 17-seater minibus mounted a pavement and killed Azra Podrug, 35, and Zorana Stancic, 22, in south-west London last year.

She was banned from driving for six years and ordered to retake her test.

Sgt Mark Drummond, of the Met Collision Investigation Unit, said: "In sentencing Colette Wilson to five years imprisonment, the court has put out a clear message that driving whilst tired is as devastating in its consequences as driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

"The message to all drivers is simple - don't drive whilst tired."
