Inquiry into 'rude' 999 operator

A Metropolitan Police officer who handles 999 calls from three areas in London is under investigation for allegedly being rude to callers.

The Pc's calls were reviewed in an internal force probe after a colleague raised concerns with senior officers.

The officer is now being investigated by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) .

He works for Central Communications Command and handles calls from control centres in Lambeth, Bow and Hendon.

A supervisor at the centre alerted professional standards investigators after reviewing recordings of other calls dealt with by the officer between 1 May and 26 July this year.

Deborah Glass, of the IPCC, said: "Members of the public must be able to feel confident that, when they call 999, they will be dealt with sensitively and professionally and that appropriate action will be taken.

"This investigation will scrutinise all the calls taken by this particular officer as well as looking at the way in which he was supervised."
