Warehouse fire prompts evacuation

Several homes were evacuated when a major fire started in warehouses on the south-east London/Kent border.

Police moved residents to safety after the fire broke out in the Rockhill area of Chelsfield near Orpington.

At its height, eight crews tackled the fire which spread through the row of single-storey warehouses.

Kent Police said: "Firefighters are working hard to contain the fire and prevent it spreading to nearby homes and other buildings."

A cordon was set up after the fire started at about 2100 BST on Thursday.
