Pensioner murdered in his house

Police are yet to establish a motive for Mr Highwood's killing

Police have launched a murder investigation after a pensioner was found dead in south London.

Edward Highwood, 79, was found with head injuries at his home in Hollymount Close, Greenwich, on Sunday.

Mr Highwood, who was last seen alive on Friday, was dead when police arrived.

Det Insp Steve Warrilow said: "We must retain an open mind regarding motive and are trying to establish whether anything was stolen from the house."

He continued: "We wish to hear from anyone who saw him at any time that day or the day after Friday.

"Similarly we need to hear from anyone who saw anything suspicious in the vicinity of Hollymount Close on Friday or Saturday."

There have been no arrests.
