Charge over elderly woman assault

A man has been charged with the attempted murder of an elderly woman in north-west London.

Anne Driscoll, 82, was stabbed nine times in the neck and stomach as she walked home from shopping on Burns Road in Harlesden, on 29 June.

Binay Bhanderi, 22, from Harlesden, was charged on Saturday and appeared before magistrates on the same day.

Mrs Driscoll's condition is now described as being "stable" in a north London hospital.

Mr Bhanderi has been remanded in custody and will next appear in court at the Old Bailey on 23 October.
