Further tests on arson death girl

Maleha Masud

Further tests are being conducted on the body of a 15-year-old girl who died after an arson attack in south London to find the cause of her death.

Maleha Masud died on 25 June four days after the attack in Tooting, which has left brothers Zain, 22, and Junaid, 16, and sister Nabiha, 21, critically ill.

All four, and their mother Rubina suffered burns and smoke inhalation.

A post-mortem examination conducted on Saturday failed to find the cause of Maleha's death.

Her mother Rubina Masud was discharged from hospital last week but the condition of her three children has been described as critical.

Two youths, aged 14 and 15, were arrested and bailed to return in August for further inquiries.

Firefighters were called to the property in the early hours of 21 June and rescued Nabiha, Maleha and Junaid.

City banker Zain and Ms Masud had escaped by jumping from a first-floor window of the house.

Police said petrol had been poured through the letterbox before the fire had been started.
