A west London school is "in mourning" after a five-year-old girl died when she was hit by a car outside.

The girl, a pupil at King Fahad Academy, died near the school at the junction of Trinity Way and Bromyard Avenue, in Acton on Monday afternoon.

The youngster, who has not been named, died from her injuries shortly after being taken to St Mary's Hospital. Her next-of-kin have been informed.

The driver stopped at the scene. No-one has been arrested, police said.

The head teacher of King Fahad Academy said she was still too upset to discuss the incident. She added: "The whole school is in mourning."

Officers have appealed for witnesses to come forward.

A post-mortem examination was due to take place later.
