Two men have denied murdering a teenage girl and her grandmother who were killed in a flat fire in east London.

The bodies of Shannen Vickers, 17, and Pauline Adams, 57, were found in a house in Malmesbury House, Cyprus Street, Bethnal Green, last February.

The pair were overcome by smoke as they slept in the three-bed flat.

Appearing via videolink Jake Sheehan, 20, of Bethnal Green and David Philip, 18, of Leopold Street, Bow, pleaded not guilty to murder at the Old Bailey.

Both men, who were remanded in custody, will face trial on 7 September.

Firefighters found the victims in a rear bedroom in the fifth-floor of the seven-storey building.

Shannen was studying business studies at Epping Forest College in Loughton, Essex.
