Three Metropolitan Police officers have been arrested over claims of inflating expenses while investigating the 7 July bombings, Scotland Yard has said. The officers were arrested on Tuesday in connection with offences including misconduct in a public office, conspiracy to defraud and theft. Three members of the public, thought to be relatives of the officers, were also arrested on Tuesday. The offences are allegedly linked to the misuse of corporate credit cards. They were allegedly carried out while the officers were in Leeds investigating the background of the suicide bombers. A Metropolitan Police spokeswoman said: "Three police officers were arrested yesterday following a proactive operation by the Met's Directorate of Professional Standards - Specialist Investigations Unit. "The officers, two of whom are based in a Specialist Operations unit and one of whom is based on an east London borough, were arrested in connection with a number of offences including misconduct in a public office, conspiracy to defraud, theft and false accounting. "Three members of the public were also arrested as part of the operation. All six are currently in custody."
