Met chief off with appendicitis

Sir Paul Stephenson
It is unknown when Sir Paul will return to work

Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Paul Stephenson is off sick following an appendicitis operation.

Sir Paul had returned to work on Monday following an operation to have his appendix removed just three days earlier on 17 April.

But he was advised by doctors on Thursday to go home after becoming unwell again.

In his absence, Acting Deputy Commissioner Tim Godwin has taken control of London's police force.

A Met Police spokesman said it was unknown when Sir Paul would be able to return to duty.
