Air rifle death 'family tragedy'

A teenage boy has died after being shot with an air rifle during target practice in the garden of his house in Hayes, Greater London.

He has been formally identified as Sam Shaw, aged 15.

Police and an air ambulance were called at 1620 GMT on Saturday and the boy was pronounced dead at the scene.

A police spokesman said: "We will be preparing a report for the coroner but we are treating this as a family tragedy. No arrests have been made."

He said the boy was apparently practicing rifle shooting with two friends in the garden of his home in the Pinkwell area of Hayes when the accident happened.

"A post-mortem examination will be held at Uxbridge Mortuary," the spokesman added.
