Officer charged over fatal crash

A police officer has been charged with death by dangerous driving after a woman died when she was hit by a marked police car.

Sandra Simpson, 61, was knocked down by the car close to her home in Bromley, south-east London, in August.

Pc Malcolm Searles, 23, has been charged with death by dangerous driving, three counts of dangerous driving and three counts of speeding.

He is due appear at Westminster City Magistrates' Court on Thursday.

The charges against the officer, based at Bromley station, follow an investigation by the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
