A man has been arrested after a diner was shot dead outside a restaurant in north London.

Police found Damian Blair, 26, with gunshot wounds outside the Too Sweet restaurant on High Road, Tottenham, just after 0100 GMT.

Mr Blair, of Park Avenue, Wood Green, died shortly after reaching hospital. He died of wounds to the upper body, a post-mortem examination found.

The 27-year-old man, arrested on Friday evening, is in police custody.

Officers believe the incident that led to the shooting happened outside the cafe.

Det Ch Insp John MacKenzie said: "We believe there were about 20 customers at the cafe when the shooting occurred.

"They left the scene before police arrived, and we urgently need to trace and speak with them. They may be vital witnesses."

The killing is being investigated by officers from Operation Trident, which deals with gun crime in London's black community.
