London Zoo is carrying out its annual headcount of every live animal and insect in its collections.
The zoo, one of London's most popular attractions, must complete the new year count of every creature, from the smallest spider to the largest ape.
The data collected is submitted to the British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquariums (Biaza) in order to aid the management of animal welfare.
London Zoo, located in Regent's Park, has more than 15,000 creatures.
Biaza's director, Dr Miranda Stevenson, said: "It's important that zoos ensure their figures are correct so they can best manage conservation.
"Some of the species in captivity, such as Socorro doves, are now extinct in the wild."
