A 14-year-old boy has been admitted to hospital after being shot in the chest in Greenford, west London.
Police believe he was attacked on Sudbury Heights Avenue before being taken to hospital by two males.
Hospital staff alerted officers about the attack. The victim was later transferred to another hospital, where his condition is stable but improving.
Police have appealed for the two men who accompanied the boy, who lives in Wembley, to come forward.
The men travelled to Northwick Park Hospital with the boy in a minicab but disappeared before officers arrived.
Police have also asked anybody in the Sudbury Heights Avenue area, between 1300 and 1400 GMT, on Tuesday to contact them.
The shooting is being investigated by Operation Trident, which deals with gun crime in London's black community.
House-to-house inquiries are being conducted and police are waiting to speak to the victim.
