Boy dies in hit-and-run incident

An 11-year-old boy has died after being hit on a crossing in north London by a car which was then driven off.

He was struck on the pedestrian crossing outside the Ikea store on the North Circular Road in Neasden at about 1920 GMT on Saturday.

He was then hit by a second car, which stopped nearby.

The boy was taken to hospital with serious head injuries, but died in the early hours of Sunday. Police are appealing for any witnesses.

The first car is possibly an older model BMW, police said.

"The car collided with the boy on the pedestrian crossing and carried on eastbound towards Brent Cross," said a police spokesman.

"Following the first collision the boy was struck by another car. The driver of the second car stopped nearby."
