Hospital order in 'vendetta' case

A man was sent to a secure hospital indefinitely under the Mental Health Act in relation to a vendetta against his south-east London neighbours.

Robert Angus, 39, has been diagnosed as a paranoid schizophrenic.

A jury at the Old Bailey cleared him of murder over an arson attack on a flat in New Cross that left one woman dead and her teenage daughter badly injured.

But Angus was found guilty of threatening the woman's 30-year-old son and causing him actual bodily harm.

During his trial in July, court heard that Angus had engaged in an unprovoked dispute with Lee Carrington.

The Carringtons were neighbours in Drakefell Court when the deadly blaze occurred in October 2007.

Diane Carrington, 47, was rescued by the fire brigade, but later died in hospital.

Her 15-year-old daughter was badly injured, but managed to escape through a window and was found clinging to a ledge.

Angus has been moved to Broadmoor hospital while awaiting trial. His sentencing was delayed after the judge expressed concerns about his mental state and further psychiatric reports were requested.

Judge Richard Hawkins committed Angus to mental hospital indefinitely.
