Youth stabbed on school premises

A 15-year-old boy stabbed at his school is recovering in hospital after initial fears for his life.

He was taken to hospital by air ambulance from Cardinal Wiseman School on Greenford Road, Greenford, west London, at 1610 GMT on Thursday.

His injuries were considered life-threatening, but police have confirmed that his condition has since improved.

A 16-year-old boy from Southall has been arrested over the incident. He remains in police custody.

An arts festival due to take place in the school later that evening was cancelled because of the stabbing.

A spokesman for the school said it would remain closed on Friday, except for year 11 classes, and reopen on Monday.

He said: "The school day will be a normal Monday other than each year group will have a short assembly during the morning so that all students are fully informed and reassured," he said.

"We will be offering a full range of pastoral support for those students affected by this."
