Armed police in the flat
Police were called to the scene in Golders Green after shots were heard

A man has been found shot dead in a flat in Golders Green, north London.

The victim, whom police described as being in his 20s or 30s, was discovered in the building on Highfield Road after reports that shots had been fired.

These reports led armed officers to advise workers in a nearby office block to stay indoors late on Monday morning.

Scotland Yard said officers from its division for serious crimes were investigating and attempts were being made to identify the victim.

He was found dead at the scene, a spokesman added, and a post-mortem examination would be organised "in due course".

Highfield Avenue and Golders Green Road remain closed to traffic while forensic work continues.
