Men jailed for betting shop death

Leslie Bones
Mr Bones was attacked after he used racially abusive language

Two teenagers have been jailed for two years each at the Old Bailey for beating a 60-year-old to death after a row at an east London betting shop.

Leslie Bones, from Barking, was punched and kicked and collapsed inside Coral bookmakers in Station Parade, Barking, on 19 April. He died the following day.

Andrew Angus, 18, from Barking, and Marcel Anderson, 18, from Dagenham, admitted manslaughter.

A row broke out after Mr Bones was asked to stop smoking, the court heard.

The teenagers attacked him after Mr Bones used racially abusive language towards them.

The 60-year-old man fell to the ground and hit his head which caused a fractured skull and brain damage resulting in his death, the court heard.

Sentencing the men Judge Richard Hawkins said: "Such language could not justify the attack."
